Project Info
Inspiration
The project inspired us as a team because we are not very familiar with web building, and wanted to take on a challenge going into the weekend.
What it does
It can be used similarly to a social media page that spreads awareness about ongoing / past ICE raids.
How we built it
We built the main website using Mocha, and the built our own web scraper for the articles. We also attempted to use Twilio for the SMS push notifications.
Challenges we ran into
The Twilio SMS push notifications needed 3-5 days for verification. We also had the issue of not having a lot of information until we built our web scraper.
Accomplishments we're proud of
We're proud of being able to say we can launch / deploy a website now, we're proud of the web scraper and attempted SMS notifications, and we're proud that we've completed our first hackathon.
What we learned
We learned a lot about different libraries and tools, we learned about proper JSON formatting for data, and we learned about setting up a website using HTML.
What's next
We want to fully implement the SMS push notification system, as well as incorporating a carousel of news articles at the top.
