Inspiration

As someone who’s struggled my whole life with asthma and really bad allergies, I wanted to build something meaningful to myself and others like me.

What it does

It detects harmful gases and temperature/humidity to deliver personalized advice through Claude’s API. It also lets you know of the levels and whether they’re good or bad.

How we built it

Arduino with sensors hooked up to it to read temperatures, humidity, and PM2.5 levels. The backend is done in python with Flask. I used Claude api for personalized advice and suggestions based on the readings.

Challenges we ran into

I didn’t have some of the sensors needed so I had to simulate them. I had some issues getting the API to work as well.

Accomplishments we're proud of

I’m proud that in my first hackathon, I managed to build something that I find to be really meaningful. I came here just wanting to get my idea done, and I did just that!

What we learned

I learned that I really like doing this. I like making things that can make a real impact. I learned not only more about the toolsets I used, but I learned from other people about their cool ideas!

What's next

Instead of sending the readings over serial usb, I can use an ESP32 to send it over wi-fi. That along with upgraded sensors (I used the cheaper models which have less accuracy) I believe this is something I can genuinely turn into a full fledged product for those who share some of my struggles.
