Inspiration

NutriLens was inspired by the growing emphasis on health and wellness, and the challenge many people face in understanding the nutritional content of their meals, especially when dining out or trying new dishes. The idea was to leverage technology to provide instant access to detailed nutritional information, making it easier for individuals to make informed dietary choices.

What it does

NutriLens is an augmented reality (AR) spectacle system that: Provides real-time macro tracking by identifying ingredients and estimating portion sizes. Offers recipe suggestions based on available ingredients. Displays nutritional information directly in the user's field of view.

How we built it

AR technology integrated into spectacles for hands-free operation. AI-powered image recognition to identify food items and ingredients. Integration with the USDA Food Data Central API for retrieving nutritional information. A backend connection to for processing input and generating recommendations. AR UI menus for displaying information and interacting with the system.

Challenges we ran into

Developing accurate food recognition algorithms for a wide variety of ingredients and dishes. Creating an intuitive AR user interface that doesn't obstruct the user's view. Ensuring real-time performance for instant feedback and information display.

Accomplishments we're proud of

Successfully integrating AR technology with nutritional analysis for a seamless user experience. Developing a system that provides instant, accurate nutritional information in real-time. Creating a multi-functional tool that assists users throughout the entire cooking process. Designing an innovative solution to promote healthier eating habits and informed dietary choices.

What we learned
